Why Settle for One Beach When You Can Have Ten?

Which is the best beach in the world? I’ll be darned if I know, as I have only ever got sand in my shoes on about 7 of them. I also have to admit that a cold British wind was whipping round my stinging ears on 5 of them as well.

This leaves me with two foreign beaches to my credit. One in Spain and one in Italy. Now I feel that it is time to see some more and this led me to the original question about which one is the best on the planet.

The problem is that most of them are too far away just to pop along and see if they are really that great or not. It’s not like when someone tells you that the local supermarket has an offer on beans and you put on your coat and wander round to stock up for the next few weeks. I soon realised that going directly to the best beach in the world wasn’t going to be easy. People talk about fabulous stretches of sand in Thailand, Jamaica, India, Spain, Colombia and the Seychelles as being the best on Earth while I can’t even make my mind up between Blackpool and Bournemouth. You see my problem I am sure. Anyway, I made this list of what I would look for in the best beach to see if it might help narrow things down. Read more…

Sailing and sunbathing on New Year’s Eve

Guest post by Cristina Banu

Last year was the first in which I did not see any snow in the period around New Year’s Eve. Why? Because I spent that special time of the year on a cruise in the Caribbeans.

It was a very nice experience, being on such a big ship – Mein Schiff, on a tour provided by TUI. The best thing about cruises is that you sleep at night relaxed in your bed while the ship is heading to the next island. In the morning the ship arrives in the harbor and you have the entire day to go sunbathing, sightseeing, shopping, sailing, diving, basically whatever you want to do on the islands.

The ship had very good food and lots of it! When you go on such a cruise, you need to be careful not to eat too much. It isn’t easy though, if you enjoy eating as much as I do :) . I went to the gym everyday to make sure I stay in shape.

New Year’s Eve was celebrated with lots of food, drinks, deserts, all arranged in shapes of castles, the Eiffel tower and other such architectural landmarks. I could hardly decide which one to try first. At midnight all passengers and crew gathered on the deck to watch the beautiful fireworks. Read more…

Photo Wednesday – Hidden Beaches of Sardinia

If you’re planning a beach holiday in Sardinia, there are a few things you should know. Most of the smaller, quieter, private beaches are hidden, or at least they seem so. No signs pointing you in the wrong direction, minuscule entrances that you’d hardly know lead you in the right way, few people walking by to give you directions, they’re already sun bathing or swimming!

Yet you know they’re there, you’ve heard of them and feel like spending an afternoon on a semi-deserted beach where it’s quiet enough to have a pleasant conversation, read a book, or fall asleep to the sound of the waves.

So what can a tourist do to reach these pieces of heaven? Read more…
